KCRW Bookworm Ad

Bookworm Ad
spacer
Part of an ad campaign. The ad is divided into thirds, the DJ/host picture would occupy the center. The blurb and boilerplate would be below and the font would carry the personality. Mostly black and white for newspaper, this one is the exception, so I used color very sparingly using a special tri-tone effect which creates interesting effects. The font is a modified Mrs. Eaves from Emigré.

Jaguar Postcard

Jaguar Postcard

The Manhattan trip for this piece had expired so I took the color of the Jaguar and used it for a color palette to create a 3D abstract background using Cinema 4D. I had fun working with the subtle colors and getting the lighting to work with the body light on the car’s body. This was the first time I incorporated 3D in my print work.

This piece is part of the automobile series.

Ralph Steadman Summerday

KCRW Summerday

A 4 page self-mailer invitation that contains lists of wines and food to be auctioned off at a radio fundraiser. We were granted permission to use some illustrations by Ralph Steadman and I embraced his color palette, using it throughout the piece. The challenge with this design was not to make it look too crowded, even though there was a lot of information to compile. I had help from a local art director, Carol B. Scott.

KCRW Jaguar Sweepstakes Envelope

Jaguar Sweepstakes Envelope
spacer
This was the first time the client had a car as part of sweepstaks. The deal with Jaguar came through at the last minute. So I had to pull this piece together while on vacation in the Bahamas, working off a 1st generation iBook. I decided to keep the elements to a minimum and allow the envelope to ‘breathe’.

This piece is part of the Jaguar series and the automobile series.

A Sounds Eclectic Evening Poster

Not often I get to do a ‘loose’, arty piece. When I do it’s fun to cut-loose and experiment with some unorthodox design approaches. The main art was illustrated by Miripolsky, and I had to carry the feel of the piece into the layout. I added the fire and the red as an overall theme to keep it spicy.

This was a poster, one of many pieces that made up this project.

Call To Subscribe Ad

Not one of my greatest pieces as far as design goes, but this ad was pulled together from concept to deadline in under 2 days. Submitted 3 concepts in the first day. I shot the cell/mobile phone in my backyard using the sun as a key-light. Did all the retouching and production including 7 ad-breakdowns for various pubs.

Not looking so shabby, now is it?

KCRW Angel Brochure

Angel Premiums French Version
spacer
Originally this brochure looked like a catalogue, with pictures of items and prices. As the product became more and more esoteric e.g: 1 years membership to a club. I convinced the client that we could achieve the same result yet create a corporate image.

I change the look of this piece completely twice a year. You can look at others in the series by clicking here.

KCRW “Tuned-In” Header

A radio station with a lot of online sweepstakes and campaigns, has to constantly update or create a new look. With KCRW this happens at least once a month. This header is one of around 15 pieces I produce for the online campaign, including a flash banner.

Again I can’t help but use color. The image and background are a collection of muted tones and the key points are highlighted in primary colors.

Orange Soda Pop Website

Orange Soda Pop Site
spacer
This is my website for the past 4 years. It’s long overdue for an update, but I cut my teeth on a lot of different code building this, including a complete recoding from object based coding to timeline coding. I guess this site has taken the place of it to some degree. I love flash but sometimes it’s a little restrictive in ease of updating. I still tinker with it from time to time and will always use it as a code resource and a place to test new ideas.

This site is a good example of how I like to use color in a site to help with navigation.

KCRW Smart Car Postcard

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

Smart Car ForTwo American Version
spacer
This card was an extension of a large print and online campaign. I color coded different pieces of the campaign with changing background colors. This marks one of the final pieces and has a color from each of the different campaigns.

There are a lot of subtle enhancements to the card including a custom vector background, extensive retouching to the windows, outline and reflection of the car. I like this piece because it shows how one can massage a unique look over the period of a campaign.
