La Palma Website, Palm Springs
spacer
A full page flash design for a vacation rental in Palm Springs, California. Everything involved in the production of this site, including half the photography, all the copywriting and research, logo design and even the name of the house I had to do myself. The owners were hands-off which allowed me plenty of artistic freedom, however it turned out to be a LOT of work.

In the end I’m pretty happy with the results. The actionscript code is mighty pretty. The images are loaded in using xml so the client could update the photos and description later as needed, without my intervention.

KCRW iPod Flash Banner

The original design of this banner had no Flash, it was just a jpeg. When Apple released the new iPod, the client wanted a revamp I suggested adding some Flash. In the working example, each show had a unique click through. It took a while to get the coding just right, but in the end it has been one of the most successful flash banners to date. I like to design flash banners that incorporate functional interactivity. Something that isn’t a ploy to get you to click or a mindless game that results in getting your browser redirected.

This is where I kicked it up a notch. This is a rendered 3D movie, which I edited down and brought in frame by frame. Due to size constraints I had to keep it short. At the time we were going with pink as the online signature color. We connected the banner to directly connect to the archived tune. The client really liked this and had me do another which you can see here.

Gloveboxx Website

A quick website for an entrepreneur who was launching a new product. Pretty much left alone to do what I wanted on this site, with 2 restrictions… time and money. I really like the way orange and grey work together. You can do so many subtle things then you shift the grey hue to warm and cold. Client was super happy, and so he should be. This one came in under $1,000.

The site itself is now defunct but I have the skeletal working still on my site.

There is quite a bit of work on this one. If you look carefully, all the ribbons draw on individually and is a different hue for each, as well as type color changes. It’s laborious work but the effect feels polished and professional.

I had to break a lot of actionscript rules to get this done on time. I was able to keep all my actionscript in the timeline but I couldn’t keep all the elements in the first frame. The end result doesn’t matter as it looks the same, but I take pride in my coding and I like my flash to look as good on the inside as it does on the outside.

Sweeps Flash Banner

This is a very simple home page slideshow banner that rotates through static screens. Clients like flash banners because they can squeeze a lot of message in a small space. The only drawback is that most web-masters require the file to be below a certain size, usually around 30K. The trick, as a designer, is to find fonts that read well and not allow the overall quality to suffer too much.

Orange Soda Pop Site

This is my website for the past 4 years. It’s long overdue for an update, but I cut my teeth on a lot of different code building this, including a complete recoding from object based coding to timeline coding. I guess this site has taken the place of it to some degree. I love flash but sometimes it’s a little restrictive in ease of updating. I still tinker with it from time to time and will always use it as a code resource and a place to test new ideas.

This site is a good example of how I like to use color in a site to help with navigation.

A site for a client that helps other companies build better sites… The obvious brief: This clients prospects will be looking hard at this site to judge the firms capabilities!

There are a few bells and whistles. A custom drop down menu, random generator code and delicate motion graphic typography. I also used a custom wipe for each page. As usual, being all about color, I chose a colorway and stuck to it. All the images came from my extensive personal image library. It’s an older piece but I think it still holds up pretty nice. Perhaps I’d re-do it as a full page liquid flash next time.

One of many flash banners that I design throughout the year. Banners are becoming a greater part of what I do. The trick is to do everything the client wants, and more, but keep the filesize under 30K. To do this you have to know how to compress your images optimally and know how to create simple code. The more work the code does the smaller the file will be.

Flash Website Design for Fizz

One of the first flash websites I ever designed. I had to do it over 3 times to get it right. The client loved it the first time but I had to make it perfect.

Color is a big thing in my work. I took the colors off the existing logo and really saturated them out. As you interact with the website you’ll notice that the logo breaks apart in a different way each time.
