2008 Summer Sweeps
spacer
With this piece I decided to create in interesting background that, through contrast, I could manipulate the layout. I played with 5 backgrounds before choosing the one above. At this point in the campaign, KCRW’s online support drive was robust and I had to consider how to extend the print design into online cohesion.
I liked the way this turned out, as the white Mini lives in the white space of the layout and the vibrant images of the trips are framed against the dark blue.

A Sounds Eclectic Evening Poster

Not often I get to do a ‘loose’, arty piece. When I do it’s fun to cut-loose and experiment with some unorthodox design approaches. The main art was illustrated by Miripolsky, and I had to carry the feel of the piece into the layout. I added the fire and the red as an overall theme to keep it spicy.

This was a poster, one of many pieces that made up this project.

KCRW Smart Car Postcard

Smart Car ForTwo American Version

This card was an extension of a large print and online campaign. I color coded different pieces of the campaign with changing background colors. This marks one of the final pieces and has a color from each of the different campaigns.

There are a lot of subtle enhancements to the card including a custom vector background, extensive retouching to the windows, outline and reflection of the car. I like this piece because it shows how one can massage a unique look over the period of a campaign.

Smart Car Sweepstakes Envelope

I created all the elements of this piece, the olympic ribbon was hand-made in Illustrator™ and the smart car had some major retouching.

This envelope was converted [printed + folded from scratch] so I could run my layout right up to the edges. The background wraps around the car like a custom photography stage, giving the car a grounding and a color splash of many hues.

Right On Target

This is a series of 4 targets + arrows icon/illustration I’m doing for
istock.com.

I concept out the piece on a sketchpad, then I use Adobe Illustrator™ to draw the outline of the elements. From there the ‘elements’ are imported into Maxon Cinema 4D™, modeled then rendered. The rendering then goes back to Illustrator for tracing and color

The result looks very convincing as a 3D rendering but is in fact vector. The look is stylized and iconic. Great for raw editorial and esoteric concept layouts.
